Paraty
In early April, we spent 48 delightful hours in Paraty. We went to photograph another Ad Astra collection along the cobblestone streets and colorful houses of the historic center and spent a wonderful day on the Costa Verde aboard the Sem Pressa, the most charming boat in Paraty, with nautical catering by Gastromar, skippered by the lovely Gisela Schmitt.
We invited Gisela to write this guide to Paraty, after all, there is no one better than her to talk about the most charming city in Brazil, which she chose to call her own more than 10 years ago.
Gisela is one of the people who best represents Paraty, helping to foster the local economy and small businesses, one of the most admirable women we have ever met.
Summary
Paraty: 2 nights
The Arrival
We went to Paraty by car from São Paulo, it's approximately a 4-hour drive. We stayed at the Casa Simone guesthouse and really enjoyed the experience. The guesthouse is super charming, the room is great and the staff is attentive.

Fazenda Bananal - 15 minutes by car on the Paraty/Cunha highway - delicious lunch with products grown there. Beautiful project by Bel Lobo, common area, visit to the organic garden, chicken coop, cheese factory, kids' activities. (It is next to Cachaçaria Paratiana, which is also worth a visit.
Quiosque do Camarão (Márcia's) - Corumbê Beach, 10 minutes by car towards RJ. A beachfront restaurant run by a dear caiçara family, with great food and caipirinha. I love the shrimp bobó, fried cassava and fish pf!
Quiosque São Francisco, by Catarina - Barra Grande Beach, 15 minutes by car towards RJ. A kiosk right on the sand, with all the care and dedication of Catarina. Delicious crab moqueca, close to my favorite fish market in Sinesio. Massage right next door, also on the sand.
Le Gite D'Indaiatiba - Graúna, 20 minutes by car, on a beautiful little road in the "backlands" of Paraty. A very special restaurant, founded over 28 years ago by Valeria and Olivier, with delicious French caiçara-style food, an incredible location with a waterfall, views of Paraty Bay, a natural pool and a sauna on the edge of the waterfall. Order the taioba ravioli, the spicy shrimp and Valeria's enchanting desserts!

Recanto Caiçara - By sea, near Praia do Engenho, you have to go by boat or taxi boat. The best Casadinho shrimp, typical of Paraty, very caiçara with a beautiful view and a swim right in front!

Hotel Fasano - A program 45 minutes from Paraty, to see the project by architect Thiago Bernardes and taste the classic cuisine of Fasano. It is worth booking the Spa, which is wonderful.
Lunch/Dinner in the Historic Center
Thai Brasil - Tropical atmosphere, great option to get away from the basic caiçara, I love the green papaya salad and the green squid curry.
Thai Paraty - Near the Santa Rita Church, all stucco, delicious Thai food, I love the shrimp pad thai.
Quintal das Letras - (restaurant at Pousada Literária): more contemporary, comfortable, super quality food and service, products straight from Fazenda Bananal. I love it and it's open every day.
Apothekario - Bar with excellent drinks next to Pousada do Sandi, great for before or after dinner.
Atlântico Bar - New in town, from the same group as Bananal and Literária, a tapas bar with live music and great drinks, in the old Pousada Pardieiro that is being completely renovated.
Banana da Terra - From chef Ana Bueno, who has been bringing caiçara cuisine with a modern twist for 30 years. With a mix of local ingredients, beautiful presentation, comfortable and great service.
Sweet Cart in the Historic Center - there are several and it's always a delicious homemade dessert. I love the typical tapioca and coconut cake, not very sweet.
Punto Divino - In the main square, an unpretentious, upbeat cantina where you can meet local friends, with live music, great pizza, pasta, very local, very family-friendly, good for large groups and kids too.
